Who we are
WellTheory is an early-stage startup on a mission to reverse the autoimmune epidemic. To do this, we are combining food as medicine, community care, and personalized insights from health data to build a membership experience that supports women no matter where they are in their autoimmune journey.
We just raised a $6M seed round led by Accel to build our technology platform from scratch and scale our coaching offerings.
Our team has deep startup experience, including at Oscar Health, Dropbox, Everlane, Wethos, and Bill.com, and we have a connection to the problem since many of us have autoimmune conditions. We are venture-backed and supported by a team of angel investors and industry advisors with deep health care expertise, including the Chief Strategy Officer at Stanford Medicine.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join as one of our first few hires.
As WellTheory's Senior Product Manager, you will play a key role in building our digital member experience from scratch. This is a great opportunity for somebody who enjoys building 0 to 1! We initially launched our membership on a 3rd party platform to validate our care delivery model, and now we are ready to build our own technology to help us scale and improve the member experience.
In this role, you will work closely with engineering to get to feature parity with our 3rd party platform while incorporating insights that will help us delight our members. In addition to building products that our members will use, you will also play a role in ensuring we are building high-quality internal tooling to help our world-class Care Team support members at scale.
Here are some key projects you would own:
- Driving our “build vs. buy” strategy. There’s been a boom of health tech APIs and SDKs on the market, and we believe in buying technology components that aren’t core strategic priorities so we can move quickly and focus on building our core differentiators from scratch. You’ll guide the process from evaluation to integration.
- Managing our migration from the 3rd party platform to our own technology. This is a big endeavor, and we’ll look to you to prioritize what we build and in what sequence, how we migrate our different user types over, and how we make this a seamless process for everyone involved.
- Thinking holistically about the member journey and helping us build a roadmap with experiments to increase member satisfaction and retention while driving health outcomes
In addition, here are some ongoing core responsibilities for the role:
- Iterate through the build-test-learn cycle to continually measure and improve the member experience
- Own the roadmap for one or more areas of the product, prioritizing across multiple stakeholders
- Manage the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and be accountable for ongoing success criteria and OKRs
- Establish and scale our product development processes, from customer interviews to PRDs to roadmapping
- Get into the weeds - write the user stories, help with QA, create documentation— whatever it takes!
You might enjoy working with us if you:
- Are motivated to help reverse the global autoimmune epidemic and help people live healthier lives. If you're interested in health, wellness, nutrition, and mental health, you'll enjoy helping build our product.
- Like autonomy and responsibility—you'll have tons of opportunity to contribute without bureaucracy.
- Enjoy working asynchronously and value efficient, well-run meetings. We all care about using each others' time effectively and defaulting to asynchronous work where we can.
- Thrive working remotely and setting your own schedule. We don't micro-manage and care more about your output and quality of work than being online or working a certain number of hours.
- Are excited to learn from our team's experiences (Oscar Health, Dropbox, Deloitte Innovation, health coaching, starting a summer camp) and are open to sharing your experiences, too.
- Value balance between work and life. Since many of us have autoimmune conditions, we place a special emphasis on self-care and personal health, wellness, and development.
- Are looking for a partner in shaping a career you're excited about. We care deeply about personal and professional growth, and will help prep you for whatever you're looking for in the future.
You might not enjoy working with us if you:
- Like working in a more established, structured environment. You'll help build our company's culture, processes, and ways of working.
- Don't like working with ambiguity—since we're an early-stage startup, projects and priorities shift.
- Like your projects to be well-defined from the get-go. We'll be looking to you to bring your own experience and perspective to help us do the right things and flag if you think we should do things differently. You will have the opportunity to bring creativity and ownership to your projects.
- Prefer working only in person. We are a remote-ish company (aka hybrid) and will have an office hub in NYC as well as several get-togethers in person every year, but will not require employees to be in an office every day.
About you
These are not requirements but describe someone who might be a great fit for WellTheory.
- 3-5 years of Product experience at a fast-growing company, ideally working on a health tech or membership product.
- Technical-leaning. You’re an engineer’s best friend— you enjoy digging into API documentation and talking through engineering trade-offs.
- Process-oriented. You know how to run a tight ship and get something out the door for feedback, and managing projects on a deadline is one of your strong suits.
- Analytical. You are experienced translating numbers into a narrative and are comfortable making data-informed decisions.
- Bias to experimentation. You find small, quick ways to validate your ideas and either move on if your solution doesn't solve a problem or scale them up if they do.
- Customer-centric. You care about customer needs and will advocate for what's in their best interests.
- Bonus points for experience with subscription or membership models!
Joining our team
Interview process
We see the interview process as a two-way street, so our approach is designed for you to learn about us as much as it is for us to get to know you. We want to learn about your personal and professional goals, determine how to craft a long-term role that you're excited about, and give you insight into what it's like to work with us.
1. Meet us and learn about WellTheory
You'll first meet Claire, our Head of Product, over video for a get-to-know-you chat. In this conversation, you'll learn more about WellTheory and have a chance to ask any questions about our company, team culture, and product. The goal of this conversation is to get to know you, share more information about WellTheory, and see if there might be a good mutual fit. There's no need to prepare anything in advance :).
2. Learn more about you
If we're both excited to continue, the next step will be a conversation with Zac, our Head of Growth, over video to talk more in-depth about your work experience and how you collaborate with other teams. We'll talk about major projects you've led, how you think through problems, and how you collaborate with cross-functional teams. You won't need to prepare anything in advance.
3. Remote "on-site" interviews & project
Since we're a tight-knit team and the Senior PM role is so cross-functional, we want to give you a chance to get to know some of the people you'd collaborate with.
Also, we'll give you a real-world project so you get a sense of the problems we're solving and have the opportunity to work with our team. For this scoped project, we'll share real member feedback with you and you'll collaborate with our Member Experience team (which includes Product Design, Operations, and our Care Team) to identify opportunities to improve our member experience and suggest solutions.
4. Reference conversations
We will talk to a few people you've worked with. By this point, we're excited to work with you and are mainly focused on learning how to effectively work with you and set you up for success.
